Web 2.0 can change an enterprise but recognizing how, and determining whether you should, do so is confusing. This article aims to dispel some of the myths surrounding Web 2.0 while discussing its practical applications within organizations. Web 2.0 and libraries are well suited for marriage, and many librarians have recognized so. Web 2.0 , a term used somewhat interchangeably with social media , carries the not-so-veiled suggestion that everything else is merely 1.0″that is to say. Really cool people now like to talk about Web 3.0 .
RSS feeds are one really valuable side of web 2.0. The idea that you can pull out content from a site without any formatting, that’s a real bandwidth advantage. RSS hasn’t yet reached the point where users of the technology bother to unsubscribe from feeds that don’t generate quality content, so this is still an untapped channel to reinforce the facade. Plus, you’re in beta!
When it comes to the latest and greatest on the internet, the new rage is MySpace. This is a site where people from all over the world can connect with each other via the web. As opposed to an instant messaging program, MySpace allows the user to post pictures as well as detailed information.
But just like anything else on the internet, MySpace comes along with safety problems as well. No matter how many people try to stop internet predators they keep showing up time and time again. And this is especially true when it comes to MySpace.
When it comes to actually submitting your content to places, it’s wise to also consider fining smaller, niche communities outside of the massively large ones. While the potential for traffic may be less, the level of engagement and interest will be much higher, which will produce better results for your business.
Additionally, you have to remember that social networking sites and all web 2.0 communities have different written and unwritten rules. The written rules apply to what you can actually promote and advertise, and how you can or cannot do so.
The unwritten rules apply to how you can truly be successful in a given place. For example, if you really want to establish a presence on most communities and see your content get distributed and voted for, you have to be an active member of the community as opposed to a one way microphone for your business. This means commenting on the submissions of others, adding friends to your profile and so forth.
Niche marketing is also a hot Internet trend these days, with many websites dedicated to very audience-specific topics. The same is true for blogs. The best way to capitalize on the benefits blogs bring is to create more than one – if you have several areas of interest, create different blogs for each of them so that the content you publish will be unique and target market-specific.
Social networking has proved boon to the society in general. It has made the society open, where one can interact without any constraint, and where one can develop relationships which are much more healthier and equivocal.
